Answers to All of Your BOTOX® and Filler Questions
BOTOX® Cosmetic is an FDA-approved prescription medicine that is injected into your face muscles to smooth frown lines and crow’s feet in adults. Find answers to all your BOTOX and facial filler questions below:
Frown lines and wrinkles are caused by the repetitive contraction and tightening of your facial muscles. BOTOX injections work by releasing a chemical that helps your muscles relax, so that even when your nerve cells send a signal to the injected muscle, the muscle doesn’t contract but stays relaxed. This makes your lines appear smoother.
The effects of a BOTOX injection begin to show within 3-5 days and will become most noticeable between 1-2 weeks. The exact timing varies from patient to patient and depends on your age and skin condition and type.
A round of BOTOX injections will result in a smoother look for approximately four to six months. Gradually, your muscles will regain their full action and your wrinkle lines will begin to reappear, which means it is time to be treated again.
Yes. BOTOX® Cosmetic is the first botulinum toxin to be approved by the FDA to treat moderate to severe glabellar lines between the brows. Since its approval in 2002, it has been used in millions of cosmetic procedures in the United States.
BOTOX has no downtime. Your injections can be administered in minutes and you are good to go. Because there is no “recovery time”, you will begin to see results within 24-48 hours.
At NuBody Concepts, all BOTOX injections are administered by one of our surgeons. For more information about our surgeons, visit our “Meet Our Doctors” page. It is important to select a professional medical practice with years of experience in cosmetic surgery, such as NuBody Concepts, for your BOTOX injections.
No. BOTOX is a temporary solution for a smoother brow, forehead, and crow’s feet around the eyes. It will begin to wear off after 4-6 months. However, with repeated treatments your frown lines can become less severe over time because your muscles will gravitate toward a more relaxed state.
BOTOX is one of the safest and most effective wrinkle treatments, but as with any medical procedure, there may be some side effects. After a BOTOX injection, you may experience redness or swelling at the injection site. Sometimes there is a small dot where the needle was inserted, but it generally disappears after a few minutes. You may experience redness and swelling, but this is usually temporary and will recede within 20 minutes to an hour.
While Botox works best on frown lines and wrinkles above and around the eyes, Juvederm is primarily used to soften your nasal folds and plump up your lips. Botox is a chemical, while Juvederm is a filler that stays under your skin for up to 9 months. They work great in conjunction with each other and can be administered during the same visit.
As part of our Facial Aesthetics services, we also offer Volbella and Voluma. In addition, you also have the option to fill out sagging checks and facial features with natural fat transfer for face. It allows patients to achieve two goals: a slimmer waistline or elimination of trouble spots such as bra bulges, and the replacement of lost volume in the face. The fat cells are removed with liposuction and reinjected into the face, creating a similar effect as Juvederm but with an entirely natural filling material.
