Lymphatic Drainage Massage

Expert Lymphatic Drainage Massage by Licensed Medical Aesthetician in Memphis

Post-Op Surgery Relief & Detox

Lymphatic drainage massage is a highly recommended and effective therapy to expedite healing for patients recovering from plastic surgery. The lymphatic system is an integral part of the immune system, protecting the body from changes that could lead to illness. The lymphatic massage technique stimulates the lymphatic system to reduce swelling, promote healing, and detoxify the body following surgical procedures.

Lymphatic drainage massage (LDM) is also a great tool to detoxify the body regularly, even if you haven’t undergone surgery. We include LDM with cosmetic surgeries at our Memphis location, and also offer separate LDM packages through our Memphis MedSpa.

Each patient is unique. Our licensed medical aesthetician will meet with you in a consultation to develop a personalized treatment plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Lymphatic drainage massage (LDM) is a hands-on massage therapy using light pressure with circular and pumping movements (also done with glass cuppings) that encourage the movement of lymph fluid throughout the body. LDM is currently offered at the NuBody Concepts Memphis location.

LDM is recommended if you need to detox (at least 2 times per year), or after a surgery on body or face. At NuBody Concepts, we recommend a package of 3 treatments to start 1 -2 weeks out for both pre-op and post-op surgery patients (and with the doctor’s permission.) Many patients opt for an additional package of 3 more treatments because of the great results they experience with their pos-op LDM.

Patients who have had a minimally-invasive procedure like liposuction or BodyTite can start the day after surgery. Patients with more invasive surgeries should wait until 5-7 after their surgery.

In addition to its detox and post-surgery benefits, LDM is used in the following areas:

  • Fibromyalgia relief
  • Pain relief
  • Cellulite reduction
  • Digestive Support
  • Hormone balancing
  • Headache relief
  • Swelling reduction
  • Treatment of lymphedema
  • Relief for soft tissue injuries, strains or sprains
  • Arthritis

Absolutely. Anyone can benefit from LDM and its amazing detoxification effects.

During an LDM session, the patient lays down in a comfortable position while the aesthetician uses light pressure and long stokes to gently move lymph fluid from tissue to lymph nodes. This mobilizes the lymphatic system, which lies directly beneath the skin.

We recommend 3-6 LDM sessions for the best results.

Drainage is typically not painful, although some discomfort may occur due to post-surgery inflammation. The benefits of the drainage usually outweigh any discomfort.

Yes, coordinated care between the massage therapist and plastic surgeon provides the best possible results for patients.

LDM is generally safe for anyone, however it is not always recommended for patients with the following conditions:
  • Heart problems
  • Kidney failure
  • Blood clots
  • Infections
  • Congestive heart failure
  • History of strokes
  • Liver problems
Patients with any of the above conditions or history will need prior approval from their doctor before undergoing LDM.

We recommend a spacing of 1-2 weeks between LDM sessions. This may vary depending on the patient’s specific needs.

Lymphatic Drainage Massage can be performed on any area of the body or face.

Overall, you will look and feel great after having Lymphatic Drainage Massage. If before your massage you were experiencing feelings of heaviness, aches, tightness, and even swelling, these will noticeably improve after your massage, as the toxins are coaxed out of the lymph nodes and into the bloodstream.

Yes, there are many how-to videos explaining LDM technique. While you may benefit from self-taught at-home applications, as is true with any aesthetic or therapeutic service, the benefits will be much greater when the treatments are performed by a licensed  and experienced professional.

At NuBody Concepts Memphis, our licensed medical aesthetician provides both pre-op and post-op surgery Lymphatic Drainage Massage therapy for any area of the body or face, as well as individual 2x a year
 detox LDMs.

The results are almost always immediate, both visually as well as through touch/feeling.

There is really only one to do before your massage and it’s huge on benefits… H2O! Drinking lots of water to help flush everything out of your system is always beneficial.
Here is what we recommend you avoid after lymphatic drainage massage:
  • Alcohol and coffee (for at least 1-4 hours after LDM): They can both dehydrate the body, making it harder to relax.
  • Salty things (for at least 1-4 hours after LDM): They can interfere with the body’s ability to flush out toxins.
  • Heavy meals (right after LDM): They can overwhelm your digestive system.
  • Strenuous exercise or activity (for at least 1-4 hours after LDM).

Once again, we recommend that you do drink a lot of water, both before and after your massage, as it is very beneficial to helping flush any toxins out of your system.
