Fat Transfer

Minimally-invasive fat removal and transfer in Nashville & Memphis

Putting Your Fat Where You Want It

Fat transfer is a one-time, minimally-invasive cosmetic procedure to harvest fat cells from certain areas of your body and inject them into other areas. It is comparable to various forms of liposuction but keeps the fat viable after removal to use as a natural filler. It allows you to slim down your tummy, thighs, or other area with stubborn fat, while filling out sagging areas, such as your breasts. It can also be used as a natural facial filler.

Each of our board-certified plastic surgeons in Nashville and Memphis has over 20 years of experience performing fat transfer and other body contouring and cosmetic surgery services.

Each patient is unique. What your treatment will look like is determined by you and the plastic surgeon who you will meet with in a personal consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions

We use Aqualipo for all our fat transfer. Aqualipo is a minimally-invasive fat removal procedure that is especially gentle on the tissue. Using a closed system, the fat cells are loosed and flushed out, then collected and kept viable until they can be injected into the target area. Most patients choose to have fat taken from their abdomen. There are two reasons why this is a good area: it typically contains more fat than other areas, and by making it appear slimmer, you are already making the parts where you want to have more volume stand out. Fat can also be taken from the inner and outer thighs.

One of the most common areas for fat injections is the female breast. It is safe, it is natural, and it can add much-needed volume to sagging breasts. Other areas may not be as evident but can benefit equally. One is the face, where the fat can act as a natural filler. The hands are another area that can often benefit from a natural filler when the aging process takes away volume.

Facial fillers are used to give you a softer, more natural looking appearance by filling in deep lines and replacing lost volume. With temporary hyaluronic acid fillers and collagen injections, patients must return frequently for new treatments to maintain results, typically as often as every six to nine months. With fat transfer much of the transferred fat will remain for years, eliminating the need for frequent maintenance treatments.

Fat transfer uses a natural “ingredient,” i.e. your own body’s fat cells. There is no need for fillers, injections, or any other foreign substance to enter your body; therefore, you are not subject to any complications or infection that might be brought on by such substances, even if that is a rare occurrence. Moreover, there is no need for repeat treatments as often as every 6-9 months with a cosmetic treatment. Fat transfer is a one-time procedure with a lasting, natural outcome.

Natural Fat Transfer or Facial Fillers? A List of Pros and Cons

Fat Transfer is one of the best things ever invented in plastic surgery. It is made possible by the advancements in liposuction technology over recent decades. The concept is simple: A surgeon takes fat from an area of the body where you have too much of it – often around your abdomen or thighs – and transfers it to another place that needs it. How cool is that?
