Frequently Asked Questions

Most tattoos require 6-12 sessions, spaced 6-8 weeks apart, but it depends on size, colors, ink density, age of the tattoo, and your skin’s response. Professional, multicolor pieces generally require more sessions than small, older, or amateur tattoos, and black ink is generally easier to remove than colors like green, red, or yellow. We’ll give you a personalized estimate for the recommended number of treatments at your consultation.

Most people describe a brief, hot “snap” sensation during laser tattoo removal. Some patients describe it as similar to getting a tattoo, but much faster. We use cooling and technique adjustments to keep you comfortable during your treatment.

Yes, tattoo removal is generally safe for darker skin, but it requires careful consideration and the right approach to avoid hypo- and hyperpigmentation. The technology we use features adjustable settings to safely treat a wide spectrum of skin tones. A patch test and custom programming are further used to ensure safety.

Certain pigments may be more resistant to laser removal than others. Typically, dark pigments clear fastest while reds, oranges, and some brighter hues can take more sessions. At your consultation, we’ll review the expectations and estimated number of treatments for your specific colors.

Absolutely. Many clients choose a few sessions to fade the existing work to give their artist a cleaner canvas for a cover-up.

Many tattoos fade dramatically; some may leave a faint shadow or “ghost image.” The location of the tattoo (i.e. ankles vs. upper body), the colors, and skin healing all play a role.

Temporary redness, swelling, pinpoint bleeding, frosting, or blistering can occur. Strict sun avoidance, gentle cleansing, and protective dressings (if recommended) help recovery. It is important to diligently follow all post-treatment instructions given by your aesthetician to achieve the best results and avoid skin irritation.

Avoid sun/indoor tanning and the application of any photosensitizing products on the area for 2 weeks prior to your treatment, or as instructed by your provider. During your consultation, share your medical history and prescription medications. Your provider will let you know when to discontinue certain medications pre-treatment. On the day of treatment, come with clean skin (no lotions/makeup/self-tanner).

We use the advanced Rohrer Spectrum laser system, which combines five powerful modalities in one platform: IPL, 810-Diode, Q-Switch YAG, Long Pulsed YAG, and Erbium YAG. Multiple wavelengths help address a range of ink colors safely and effectively.
