Introducing PRO-NOX: Safe and Comfortable Pain Relief

We are excited to introduce the PRO-NOX pain relief system to our patients at NuBody Concepts in Nashville and Memphis. It is a proven tool to help you relieve any anxiety or worry you might experience during your treatment.

We all know that even if a procedure or treatment is not necessarily painful, we may still experience anxiety and discomfort in any kind of medical setting. PRO-NOX is a great way to take away the worry, and best of all it puts you in control.

What is PRO-NOX?

PRO-NOX is a patient-driven pain management system that allows you to be awake and comfortable during your medical procedure. It uses a mix of nitrous oxide and oxygen, also known as “laughing gas,” which has long been utilized in dental and medical settings.

Patient safety, comfort, and results are our number one concern. While we already administer local anesthesia for minimally-invasive procedures such as liposuction and skin tightening, PRO-NOX can offer added comfort and relieve anxiety. It can also be used during various non-invasive treatments, as long as they are not performed on the mouth/lips.

How Do I Use PRO-NOX?

At the beginning of your treatment or procedure, you’ll be given a mouthpiece. If and when you feel you need it, you simply breathe through the mouthpiece until you are at the desired level of pain relief. You’ll stay completely awake, but your discomfort and anxiety will drop dramatically. The relief kicks in instantly, making you feel relaxed, light, and calm.

The feeling wears off after a few minutes when the nitrous oxide is completely out of your system. You are free to repeat it is often as you want throughout the course of your treatment.

What Are the Benefits of PRO-NOX?

There are many benefits of using PRO-NOX during minimally-invasive procedures. It is FDA-approved as an analgesic (pain relief) even though it’s not classified as anesthesia. It is not addictive, and you can drive yourself home after a brief 10-minute waiting period, eliminating the need for a driver.

Nitrous oxide (N2O) is a naturally occurring gas that when inhaled acts as a weak anesthetic. It has safely been used for over a hundred years in surgical, childbirth, and dental settings. The gas quickly enters your bloodstream where it triggers a sedative effect. After a few breaths of normal air, it completely exits your system again without any lingering effects.

One more benefit is that the patient remains calmer and does not move, allowing the surgeon to achieve his best results because the patient remains still. It allows the surgeon to more swiftly apply the probe without frequent pauses as can happen whenever the patient expresses discomfort.

PRO-NOX is different from other forms of pain relief that are administered orally or through an IV. Such anesthetics require observation even after the procedure is finished, either by a medical professional or family member. With PRO-NOX, once the nitrous oxide has left your body after a brief waiting period, you are free to safely operate a car or machinery.

Does PRO-NOX have any side effects?

The main and intended effect of PRO-NOX is a feeling of extreme relaxation. This can sometimes induce a sense of temporary delusion or feel as if you are rooted in place. These feelings quickly subside once regular air is breathed in, without long-term effects. Other reported side effects include dizziness, a slight headache, or nausea, typically lasting under 5 minutes. Staying well hydrated can help prevent these.

Which Treatments Can PRO-NOX Be Used With?

PRO-NOX is ideal for shorter, minimally-invasive procedures that can trigger mild discomfort but no lasting pain. For liposuction and skin tightening, you can use it as a supplement to the local anesthesia our surgeons already administer during your procedure. But you can also request it for non-invasive treatments that are administered without anesthesia, such as dermal fillers and injectables, or any kind of skin treatment. If you are someone who hates needles, PRO-NOX is absolutely the way to go!

Ask us to add PRO-NOX to the following procedures:

  • Liposuction
  • BodyTite
  • FaceTite
  • Renuvion
