What Is Lymphatic Drainage Massage?
Lymphatic drainage massage is a gentle, non-invasive therapy that stimulates the flow of lymph fluid throughout the body. This specialized technique targets the lymphatic system, which plays a key role in immune function and fluid balance. By using precise, rhythmic movements, a licensed aesthetician can help encourage the removal of toxins, excess fluid, and waste products from the body.
Your lymphatic massage can work as a stand-alone treatment, or Grace, our licensed aesthetician, can provide post-op lymphatic massages for our surgical patients. As an introductory special, lymphatic massages are currently included free of charge with any surgical procedure (except breast procedures) at our Memphis practice.
What to Know About a Lymphatic Drainage Massage
Does Lymphatic Drainage Massage Work?
The lymphatic system is responsible for removing waste, toxins, and excess fluids from the body. When it isn’t working properly, it can lead to fluid buildup, swelling, and discomfort. Lymphatic drainage massage is a gentle technique that aims to improve the function of the lymphatic system by promoting the natural flow and drainage of lymph fluid.
If you’re wondering what happens when you have a lymphatic drainage massage, it’s quite straightforward! The technique detoxifies the body by eliminating toxins and waste products that can build up in the tissues.
Lymphatic Drainage Massage Benefits
Lymphatic drainage massage is a powerful tool for detoxifying the body. Some of the numerous and wide-ranging benefits include:
- Detoxifies the body: Lymphatic drainage massage helps the body rid itself of toxins and waste products, which can improve overall health and wellness. This can be particularly helpful for people with a weakened immune system or those recovering from an illness or surgery.
- Reduces swelling: It can help reduce swelling in the arms or legs caused by lymphedema. This condition can be painful and make it difficult to move around, so reducing swelling can greatly improve a person’s quality of life.
- Improves circulation: Lymphatic drainage massage stimulates the lymphatic system, helping improve circulation throughout the body. This can help deliver oxygen and nutrients to the body’s tissues, improving overall health.
- Boosts immune function: The lymphatic system is an important part of the body’s immune system, and lymphatic drainage massage can help stimulate it. The massage can help improve immune function and increase the body’s ability to fight off infections and diseases.
- Promotes relaxation: Lymphatic drainage massage uses gentle, rhythmic pressure to calm the nervous system and promote relaxation. This can help reduce stress and anxiety, which can positively impact a person’s overall health and well-being.
Who Is a Good Candidate?
Lymphatic drainage massage can benefit anyone who wants to help their body detoxify naturally. It is a gentle therapy that can offer significant benefits to people dealing with chronic health issues, recovering from surgery, or simply looking to enhance their overall wellness. Grace, our licensed aesthetician, is happy to provide this service along with a host of other beneficial treatments. We recently spoke to one of our patients about their experience with Grace and her many skills at the Memphis MedSpa:
Recently, my brother gave me the gift of a facial at NuBody Concepts. I made an appointment with Grace, and it was fabulous. I am not the type that ever does the entire pampered-type appointments, but after my experience with Grace, I could really become that person. Her professionalism was second to none, and her technique was a 10 out of 10. After the facial, my skin felt fabulous. I returned to work, and people came up to me and said, ‘Wow, what did you do? You are glowing.’ I explained to them the fabulous morning I had had and encouraged them to call to make an appointment. I felt like I was 30 again, and that is quite a compliment to Grace, as I just turned 65. Thank you for a great experience.”

Recovery and Regularity of Treatments
Lymphatic drainage massage is a gentle massage that can be performed regularly, depending on your needs. During your consultation, Grace will work with you to create a customized treatment plan that meets your specific requirements. Some patients may prefer to have the massage two to three times a week in the beginning before tapering off to once or twice a month. We will work with you to create a treatment plan that suits your schedule.
Although some people may experience slight soreness or fatigue after the session, most feel relaxed and rejuvenated. You should be able to continue with your regular daily tasks as usual.
To get the most out of a lymphatic drainage massage, you should:
- Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water before and after the massage to improve lymphatic flow and flush out toxins from your body.
- Avoid heavy meals as they can interfere with the digestive process and make it more difficult for the massage therapist to access your lymphatic system.
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing that won’t restrict lymphatic flow or add pressure to your body during the massage.
