Top 7 Smartlipo FAQs and Answers

Most Frequently Asked Questions About Smartlipo

For men and women looking to eliminate excess fat from certain areas of their bodies, Smartlipo may be the answer. Smartlipo is most commonly known as a type of laser liposuction. Using a medical device that delivers a safe amount of thermal energy through precise laser fibers, Smartlipo allows for the gentle removal of fat cells.

Because Smartlipo is a relatively new procedure (when compared to the old-fashioned forms of liposuction), you may have questions about how it works and what to expect. We’ve put together a list of the questions we get asked most to help you become a little more familiar with the procedure.

1. How safe is Smartlipo?

Smartlipo was created by developer and manufacturer Cynosure after decades of research and studies. It has been approved by the FDA for the safe, gentle removal of fat cells from the body.

2. Am I a candidate for Smartlipo?

We would have to go over your health history, aesthetic goals, and other concerns during an in-person consultation in order to say with certainty that Smartlipo would be a good choice for you.

Generally speaking, an ideal candidate is a man or woman in relatively good health who is not significantly overweight but has some excess fat on one or more areas of their body.

3. Do you perform Smartlipo on its own?

While some surgeons do offer Smartlipo as its own procedure, we prefer to combine it with another gentle form of liposuction, Aqualipo, for the best possible results. Aqualipo uses the gentle power of water to target fatty areas, and Smartlipo helps us ensure a precise removal of fat.

4. How many treatments will I need?

Most patients only need one treatment to achieve their aesthetic goals. If, after a few months, you aren’t completely satisfied, talk to your doctor about your options for another treatment.

5. How long will the procedure take?

Because Smartlipo and Aqualipo are both minimally-invasive procedures, the entire process only takes a few hours.

6. What can I expect during the procedure?

We use a combination of IV sedation and local anesthesia to ensure your comfort and safety before beginning. You’ll be numbed throughout the target area, and then we’ll insert the tiny cannula, which dislodges and flushes the fat cells. Once the Aqualipo portion is done, we can then move forward with the Smartlipo, which helps us remove any remnant fat cells, while achieving the best overall toning of your skin.

7. What is the recovery process like?

Most of our patients are back to their day-to-day activities within 24–48 hours after their treatment. advise you to take it easy for the following two weeks to help with comfort and healing. There are no stitches, no scarring, and few restrictions—due to the minimally-invasive nature of the procedure.

If you didn’t see your question on here or you’d like to learn more about Smartlipo or Aqualipo, please give us a call. We’re happy to provide you with the information you need over the phone or during an in-person consultation.
